SUBJ:  UPDATE OF PETROLEUM, OIL, LUBRICANT STORAGE SYSTEM MANAGEMENT POLICY
A. Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricant (POL) Storage System Management, COMDTINST 5090.9A
B. Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricant (POL) Storage System Management, COMDTINST M5090.9
1. This ACN announces the release of REF (A) date 28 OCT 2020.
2. REF (B) is hereby cancelled.
3. The Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricant (POL) Storage System Management COMDTINST is
updated to reflect current organization responsibilities and regulatory requirements.
Significant changes include:
   a. Realigning organizational responsibilities for storage tank management,
   b. Requiring use of unit environmental management systems,
   c. Prohibiting new or replacement underground storage tanks (USTs),
   d. Recording sulfur content of diesel fuel, and
   e. Requiring operator training.
4. No paper distribution will be made of REF (A). An electronic version is available
on the Coast Guard portal site at:
https://cg.portal.uscg.mil/library/SitePages/Home.aspx and on the internet
at: http://www.dcms.uscg.mil/directives.
