The Algiers Point Revetment Operations equipment has arrived on-scene.  At 6:00 am local October 13, 2020, all the provisions of MSIB 109 will be in effect to include energizing the Governor Nicholls Street Wharf and Gretna Control Lights to ensure one-way traffic measures are enforced by VTS Lower Mississippi River during mat-laying operations.

Algiers Point Revetment Operations -MM 93.7 RDB AHP LMR  

The Captain of the Port (COTP) New Orleans has issued a safety advisory for the waters of the Lower Mississippi River (LMR) from Mile Marker (MM) 92.7 Above Head of Passes (AHP) to MM 94.7 AHP to protect persons and vessels from the potential safety hazards associated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) revetment operations occurring along the right descending bank (RDB) in the vicinity of MM 93.7 AHP (Algiers Point). The operations will be conducted daily from 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM from October 5 - 8 and 13 - 15. During times of actual revetment work, the Mat Sinking Unit (MSU) will extend approximately 500 to 900 feet channel ward from the bank. At the conclusion of daily operations, the MSU platform will remain on-scene in a folded position extending approximately 300' from the RDB into the river at night.  

Effective at 6:00 AM local time on October 5, 2020, this safety advisory is in effect with the following provisions: *      

All vessels shall contact NEW ORLEANS TRAFFIC at the normal checkpoints on CH-12. The traffic lights will be energized and one-way traffic controls will be enforced by VTS Lower Mississippi River during the revetment operations listed above.*      

All vessels shall transit at slowest safe speed to minimize wake and proceed with caution. *      

All vessels shall contact the USACE on-scene pilots stationed on the M/V HARRISON or M/V WILLIAM JAMES via VHF-FM Channels 67 or 82 to make passing arrangements. 

Updates and/or changes to the published schedule will be disseminated via Marine Safety Information Bulletin, VTS email distribution, and/or Safety Broadcast Notice to Mariners.
