Media Advisory: Coast Guard holds Silver Lifesaving Medal, Certificate of Valor Presentation in New Orleans

WHAT: Three Silver Lifesaving Medals and a Certificate of Valor will be presented to members during a ceremony Tuesday in New Orleans.

WHO: Rear Adm. John Nadeau, commander of Eighth Coast Guard District, will present Silver Lifesaving Medals to Charles Alba, Nicholas Asprodites, III, and Kim Williams on behalf of her husband Frank Williams, also Erica Galiouras will be presented a Certificate of Valor.

WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020 at 5 p.m.

WHERE: New Canal Lighthouse, 8001 Lakeshore Dr, New Orleans, LA 70124

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is scheduled to hold a ceremony Tuesday presenting three Silver Lifesaving Medals and a Certificate of Valor to members at New Canal Lighthouse in New Orleans.

Presenting the three Silver Lifesaving Medals and Certificate of Valor will be Rear Adm. John Nadeau, commander, Eighth Coast Guard District.

The Silver Lifesaving Medal is awarded to citizens of the United States, military or civilian, who rescue or endeavor to rescue any other person from drowning, shipwreck, or other peril of the water in waters within the United States or subject to U.S. jurisdiction.

The Certificate of Valor is awarded to citizens of the United States, military or civilian, who rescue or endeavor to rescue any other person from drowning, shipwreck, or other peril of water.

On Dec. 5, 2017, Alba, Asprodites III, Galiouras and Williams entered into New Canal outside of Blue Crab restaurant in New Orleans, where they assisted in the rescue of two men trapped in a vehicle that drove off the dock into the lake.

Media planning to attend must arrive no later than 4 p.m. Tuesday and must follow proper CDC guidelines.
