SUBJ:  THE COAST GUARD 2020 CHILD CARE NEEDS ASSESSMENT SURVEY LAUNCH
A. Coast Guard Child Development Services, COMDTINST M1754.15 (series)
1. Background. At no time in recent history have the challenges of
balancing child care responsibilities with Coast Guard duties and the
workplace been greater. The 2020 Child Care Needs Assessment was developed
before the COVID-19 pandemic, but it couldn't be more relevant in helping
us capture the impacts of child care on morale, retention and performance.
The 2020 Child Care Needs Assessment Survey will be available to Active
Duty, Reservists, and Civilians working for the U.S. Coast Guard and will
take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
2. Action. Supervisors, Commanding Officers, Officers-in-Charge, and Gold
& Silver Badges should encourage and make every effort to support participation
in the Child Care Needs Assessment Survey by Active Duty and Reservists,
General Schedule (GS) and Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) personnel with
dependent children 12 years old and younger.
3. The survey can be accessed at: www.uscgchildcaresurvey.com.
4. Goal. The goal of this effort is to determine the availability and
affordability of child care services to Coast Guard personnel, to evaluate
and understand child care challenges facing our families, and determine the
effectiveness of the current Coast Guard programs and policies that address
child care challenges. Analysis of the data will be used to develop a strategic
plan, policy and guidance for Coast Guard Child Development Services.
5. Participants. While participation in this survey is extremely important
to the Coast Guard, participation is strictly voluntary. Participants can
be assured of complete confidentiality. The data collected will only be
published in summarized form so that no individual response can be identified.
6. Any questions or concerns about the survey should be directed to
