Coast Guard recognizes Cross Sound Ferry crew for heroic rescue
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Coast Guard is scheduled to present a Public Service Award to the Cross Sound Ferry Cape Henlopen crew on Friday, August 14.
The Cape Henlopen crew will be recognized for their efforts in responding to a vessel in distress and rescuing five people north of Plum Island, New York on July 20, 2020.
On July 20, the captain and crew of Cape Henlopen responded to a vessel in distress in Long Island Sound. The crew acted immediately, notifying the Coast Guard and launching a rescue boat. Upon approach, the Cape Henlopen rescue crew noticed the vessel in distress was taking on water and proceeded to rescue the five people onboard. After checking for medical concerns, all five people were safely returned to shore.
