1. All members are highly encouraged to pursue at least one Special Assignment
during their career. These career broadening assignments provide members
valuable opportunities to represent their Ratings, network, and learn about
other operational and mission support activities, making them ideal candidates
for future assignments to highly visible leadership and management positions
(e.g. Silver Badge, OIC, School Chief).
2. This message solicits candidates and outlines the application process for
members interested in a special duty assignment as EPME KNOWLEDGE MANAGER in AY21.
3. The Enlisted Professional Military Education (EPME) Knowledge Manager (EKM) is the
liaison for FORCECOM and the EPME Training Advisory Council (ETAC) regarding all EPME
advancement performance support related matters. The EKM will manage the Enlisted
Performance Qualification (EPQ) Standards and all aspects of the EPME SWE process;
collaborate with the Leadership Development Center (LDC) to ensure enlisted leadership
courses align with EPQ Standards; maintain the EPME Rating Virtual Center of Expertise
site; participate in the Enlisted Rating Advancement Training System (ERATS) review
process; and align EPQ Standards and EPME training requirements with the Coast Guard’s
voluntary credentialing program.
4. Eligibility:
a. Open to all E9 or E8 above the cut for E9 at time of application
b. Meets the requirements listed in reference (A), CH 1.E.2.
5. Process/timeline:
a. NLT 3 SEP 2020: Standard applications are emailed to EPM-2 at
HQS-SMB-PSC-EPM-2-SpecialAssignments@uscg.mil.
b. OOA 8-18 SEP 2020: LDC interviews applicants.
c. OOA 25 SEP 2020: Selection results are released via email.
d. The expected report date is 01 JULY 2021.
6. Standard Applications: Members and Commands should pay close attention to the
requirements listed in the standard application found at reference (C). Incomplete or
improperly formatted applications will be returned. Deadline extensions will not be
granted to correct errors.
7. The Special Assignments Officer will coordinate the release from rating process.
Applicants should not contact their detailer asking if they can be released from rate.
