1. All members are highly encouraged to pursue at least one Special Assignment
during their career. These career broadening assignments provide members
valuable opportunities to represent their Ratings, network, and learn about
other operational and mission support activities, making them ideal candidates
for future assignments to highly visible leadership and management positions
(e.g. Silver Badge, OIC, School Chief).
2. This message solicits candidates and outlines the application process for
members interested in a special duty assignment as instructor at the Naval Senior
Enlisted Academy (SEA) in AY21.
3. Naval SEA is a 10-week leadership development program for active and reserve senior
enlisted leaders from the U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and
National Guard, as well as from our international service partners, for increased
leadership and career advancement. SEA focuses on management, leadership, national
security and physical fitness. As a staff member of the Academy staff and upon
completion of the course as a student, you will certify as a Faculty Advisor.
Faculty Advisors are the primary point of contact for students and are responsible for
facilitating 3 weeks of online distance learning and presenting 3 weeks of
in-residence lessons, including coordination of student presentations and class
lectures. As a Faculty Advisor you will be the primary contact and instructor for 18-20
U.S. and Foreign Military students assigned worldwide for up to 9 classes per year.
Additional, responsibilities include the coordination with Coast Guard Leadership
Development Center (LDC), Chief Petty Officers Academy and to coordinate the enrollment
of Coast Guard Students with CG Office of Leadership (CG-128). 
4. Eligibility:
a. Tour complete in AY21 or AY22.
b. Must be an E7 above the cut for E8, E8 or E9.
c. Meets the requirements listed in reference (A), CH 1.E.2 and 1.E.6.
5. Process/timeline:
a. NLT 21 AUG 2020: Standard applications are emailed to EPM-2 at
HQS-SMB-PSC-EPM-2-SpecialAssignments@uscg.mil and 'My Panel Submissions' for the
Leadership Special Assignment Positions (LSAP) are submitted in Direct Access.
b. OOA 22 AUG - 01 OCT 2020: LDC interviews applicants
c. OOA 13 - 16 OCT 2020: Selection panel convenes.
d. OOA 23 OCT 2020: Panel results released.
e. The expected report date is 01 JULY 2021.
6. Standard Applications: Members and Commands should pay close attention to the
requirements listed in the standard application found at reference (B). Incomplete or
improperly formatted applications will be returned. Deadline extensions will not be
granted to correct errors.
7. The Special Assignments Officer will coordinate the release from rating process.
Applicants should not contact their detailer asking if they can be released from rate.
