SUBJ:  INDEPENDENCE DAY 04 JULY 2020
1. This 4th of July is our Nation’s 243rd birthday as marked by the signing of the
Declaration of Independence. The birth of our great nation was the result of hard work,
struggle, and the belief in the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness.
2. To meet the challenges of our increasingly complex maritime environment and remain
Always Ready, we must garner the talent, innovation, and creativity of every Active Duty,
Reserve, Civilian, and Auxiliary member. We must seek a diverse and inclusive Coast Guard
workforce that promotes an environment of mutual respect and is reflective of the
population we serve. We must hone our operational expertise, and we must work hard every
day to maintain America’s trust as the world’s best Coast Guard. We share this commitment
to the mission, each other, and our Nation.
3. If you are able to celebrate this 4th of July with your friends and family, please
take some time to reflect on the bravery and sacrifices of those that came before us,
those that are standing the watch today, and all that makes this Nation great. If you
are deployed at sea, standing watch, or deployed overseas, know that you are always
in our thoughts and we are thankful for your service. Semper Paratus.
