SUBJ:  2020 FEDS FEED FAMILIES CAMPAIGN
1. Coast Guard is joining the FFF Campaign to fight hunger “one pound at a time,” and
everyone is encouraged to help. This year we are conducting a virtual campaign, and
contributing is faster and easier than ever.
2. Recent estimates suggest that the average family throws away one third of the
groceries they purchase every year (150 billion pounds of food goes to waste).
Meanwhile, food insecurity impacts about one in five families across the country
(14 million households go hungry). If you’ve ever toppled the milk or juice in your
refrigerator reaching past a tower of leftovers, please consider supporting us.
3. There are three steps to making a donation. First, select a food collection charity.
This link: https://www.feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-foodbank is a handy source
for nearby food banks and pantries. Alternatively, search “food charity” and surf
through results for a prospect that appeals to you. Many options accept donations
online, and provide real-time confirmations. Next, make a donation online or by mail.
Sending money to these organizations allows full freedom to invest in products based
on specific needs of the community. But, you may also order groceries online and have
them delivered to your preferred charities. Last, email the name of the charity, date,
and the amount of your donation to one of our official FFF Champions. These steps apply
to individual and teams supporters.
4. Champions for each Area and District are needed to increase awareness and assist
field units with selecting charities and reporting participation. Nominations may be
sent to Lakia.V.White@uscg.mil. Ms White is the CGHQ Champion and will record CG-wide
donations.
5. Supporting this campaign is authorized under 5 CFR 950.102. Any questions are welcome
at (202)372-1544 or (202)372-1513.
6. SES Mike Emerson (CG Champion), Director, Marine Transportation Systems, sends.
7. Internet release is authorized.
