1. I am pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 CDR Jim Simpson Award.
These awards are designed to encourage and formally recognize Coast Guard-wide
participation in conducting our important public affairs mission. Per REF (A),
the Coast Guard’s success depends in great measure upon the American public
understanding and supporting our missions. Consequently, our service needs
every member to continue to tell the Coast Guard story.
2. Per REF (B), the CDR Jim Simpson Award, named in honor of the first press
assistant to the Commandant of the Coast Guard, recognizes excellence in an
all-encompassing unit public affairs program.
3. A selection panel convened to review 21 submission packages for the
CDR Jim Simpson Award. The following units are the recipients of the award in
the listed categories.
    a. Coast Guard Public Affairs Office of the Year
        1ST PLACE: Eleventh Coast Guard District External Affairs
        2ND PLACE: First Coast Guard District External Affairs
        3RD PLACE: Thirteenth Coast Guard District External Affairs
    b. Outstanding Unit Achievement in Coast Guard Public Affairs (Air Station)
        1ST PLACE: Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak
        2ND PLACE: Coast Guard Air Station Detroit
        3RD PLACE: Coast Guard Air Station Savannah
    c. Outstanding Unit Achievement in Coast Guard Public Affairs (Large Afloat)
        1ST PLACE: USCGC STRATTON (WMSL 752)
        2ND PLACE: USCGC JAMES (WMSL 754)
        3RD PLACE: Not Awarded
    d. Outstanding Unit Achievement in Coast Guard Public Affairs (Small Afloat)
        1ST PLACE: USCGC ROBERT YERED (WPC 1104)
        2ND PLACE: USCGC THUNDER BAY (WTGB 108)
        3RD PLACE: Not Awarded
    e. Outstanding Unit Achievement in Coast Guard Public Affairs (Sector)
