SUBJ: 2020 LATINA STYLE DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE AWARD
1. This ALCOAST solicits nominations for the 2020 LATINA Style Distinguished
Military Service Award. The award honors women who have enhanced the
role of Latinas in the U.S. Coast Guard (CG) through the performance period of
July 2019 to June 2020.
2. The LATINA Style Distinguished Military Service Award is open to CG service
members (active duty or reserve) and civilian employees.
3. Service members (active duty or reserve) will be evaluated according to the
following criteria:
    a. Distinguished themselves as leaders, mentors, and advocates of diversity
and the full integration of Latina women in the Armed Forces.
    b. Embodied the qualities that are at the core of the Coast Guard's missions.
    c. Well respected by superiors and peers as military and community leaders.
    d. Represented the Hispanic community with dignity and pride.
4. Civilian employees will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
    a. Embodied the qualities that are at the core of the Coast Guard’s missions.
    b. Aided in creating opportunities and careers that support and contribute
to the advancement of Hispanic Americans toward senior level positions.
    c. Displayed exceptional character and represented the Hispanic community with
dignity and pride.
5. Nomination packages shall include the following:
    a. A narrative describing the accomplishments warranting recognition,
not to exceed two pages.
    b. Citation highlighting the nominee's accomplishments, not to exceed 12 lines.
    c. One-page biography of the nominee (a resume will not suffice).
    d. A digital (.jpg format) head and shoulder color photograph of the nominee.
    e. Command cover memo, with signature, forwarding the package.
    f. Award Nomination Transmittal form. For a copy of this form, please contact
the Point of Contact (POC) below.
    g. Items 5a. through 5c. must be in MS Word with 12-point font, single-spaced
with one-inch margins. The documents may not be scanned or in .pdf format.
Do not include Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as DOB, SSN or
EMPLIDs in nomination packages.
6. Nomination packages must be forwarded as email attachments to the POC
by July 1, 2020.
7. COMDT (CG-00H) will convene a panel to select CG honorees. Commands of
award recipient(s) will be notified by telephone, followed by ALCOAST announcement.
