HRBT Expansion - Maritime Community Outreach Meetings

Later this year the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Hampton Roads Connector Partners (HRCP) will begin construction activity to expand the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT). This immense construction project will impact all areas near the HRBT as well as the Willoughby Bay bridge trestle area. Construction is scheduled to complete in late 2025.

While significant efforts have been made to minimize impacts to deep draft shipping in the main channel, there will be impacts to smaller vessel movement in the HRBT area on the Norfolk and Hampton sides. Additionally, the HRCP team is proposing the establishment of several mooring areas dedicated to the use of this construction project.

To inform the maritime public on all aspects of the construction project and the impacts it may have on navigation, the HRCP team will be conducting three virtual maritime outreach meetings this week.
