PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Coast Guard boating safety experts across the Mid-Atlantic coast will be available for a virtual interview on Tuesday, to show and discuss important paddlecraft safety measures as the summer approaches.

WHO
Coast Guard boat operators, search and rescue helicopter crew members and boating safety experts.

WHAT
Provide tips, best practices and helpful guidance for a safe paddle board, kayak or canoe trip on the water.

WHEN
Media must RSVP no later than 10 a.m., Tuesday.
Interviews will take place 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday

WHERE
Virtually, from a Coast Guard unit near you. Representatives near North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey will be available for a video recorded telephone interview.

Every spring, people are drawn back to their favorite paddlecraft activities. The Coast Guard searches for those who go missing or when empty craft are found. More people may be out on the water this year as they seek more socially distant ways to enjoy the outdoors.

High definition video recordings will accompany a phone interview as internet speed does not support high quality streaming in all areas.
Contact our duty Public Affairs watchstander to schedule an interview at D5PublicAffairs@uscg.mil, or at 757-513-3738. Time slots are available between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., Tuesday.

Check out stock photos and video of kayakers, paddle boarders and other paddle craft activities, as well as Coast Guard rescues of them.
