JUNEAU, Alaska -- Personnel from the U.S. Navy's Mine Countermeasures Division 31, Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Mobile Unit Three and Naval Oceanography Mine Warfare Center (NOMWC) will host a media day at the Coast Guard Station Juneau on Feb. 29, 2020.

This media day will include an overview of the Navy's role in Arctic Edge 2020 (AE20), a homeland defense exercise that occurs across Alaska and provides high quality and effective training in the extreme cold-weather conditions found in Arctic environments.

Sailors from Navy EOD Mobile Unit Three and NOMWC are conducting expeditionary mine countermeasures operations in and around the Gastineau Channel as part of the exercise. They are using unmanned underwater

vehicles, robotics and their unique diving skillset to locate, identify and eliminate exercise mines. EOD Mobile Unit Three is utilizing a dive chamber to respond to dive casualties.

The media day will include a brief presentation, a pier-side display of the equipment the Navy team is using and opportunities to meet with EOD technicians and unmanned maritime systems operators, and a waterborne demonstration that will showcase the Navy's role in promoting freedom of navigation and stability at sea, especially in defense of the homeland.

AE20 is linked to the National Guard's Arctic Eagle exercise and the U.S. Navy's Ice Exercise (ICEX). These exercises will occur during February and March 2020 and will continue to prepare Arctic-capable forces across all domains.

Video and imagery of Arctic Edge 2020 will be posted at https://www.dvidshub.noclick_net/feature/AE20
