SUBJ:  UPDATE TO MILITARY SEPARATIONS MANUAL ARTICLE 1.A.8
A. Military Separations, COMDTINST M1000.4 (series)
B. COMDT COGARD WASHINGTON DC 061148 SEP 18/ACN 093/18
1. This ACN announces immediate changes to REF (A).
2. CH-6 to REF (A) and REF (B) promulgated revised criteria applicable to Ready
Reserve Officers on active duty undergoing involuntary Special Board Action under
section 1.A.8. This change aligns Special Board processing for regular and reserve
officers with less than five years of service. This ACN is reflective of ongoing
process review and maturation between COMDT (CG-1) and the new COMDT (CG-R), and
is an early success of the Reserve End-Strength Action Team (RESAT) process.
3. The updated section 1.A.8.a now reads: “Reserve officers with fewer than five
years commissioned service being considered for general discharge for the reasons
in Article 1.A.14.c(1) or Article 1.A.14.c(2) of the Manual, will be processed as
outlined in Article 1.A.10 of this Manual. Commander (CG PSC-RPM) will serve as a
member of the panel of officers as established in Article 1.A.10 of this Manual.”
4. Article 1.A.8.b has been removed and the remaining two Article 1.A.8 subsections
have been renumbered.
5. REF (A) will be updated to reflect these changes and will be released within
one year of the promulgation of this ACN.
6. Policies and standards in REF (A) not specifically addressed in this ACN
remain unchanged.
7. For general policy questions contact COMDT (CG-1331) at:

8. RADM J.M. Nunan, Assistant Commandant for Human Resources, sends.
9. Internet release is authorized.
