Update: Coast Guard continues search for two missing mariners in Pamlico Sound, North Carolina

PAMLICO COUNTY, N.C. — The Coast Guard continues to search through Wednesday night for two missing mariners whose vessel capsized in the vicinity of the Pamlico Sound, Tuesday night.

Watchstanders at the Fifth Coast Guard District command center received the vessel’s distress signal from an emergency position indicating radio beacon on Tuesday night and quickly launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City to respond, along with a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet. 

This afternoon, the Coast Guard launched an HC-130 Hercules aircrew from Air Station Elizabeth City to conduct search patterns for the two missing mariners, along with 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet. 

A second 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Station Hatteras Inlet is scheduled to conduct additional searches throughout the night.
