FINAL: Coast Guard searches for missing man near Sanibel Island

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.— The Coast Guard ended its search for a missing man after a Coast Guard Station Ft. Myers 29-foot Response Boat—Small boat crew located a man near the southeast side of Sanibel Island, Monday.

The Station Ft. Myers RB—S boat crew located a deceased man two miles south of Sanibel Island and brought him to Sanibel Police personnel so the man could be identified. It was reported the Sanibel Police personnel are working with the missing man's next of kin to assist with identification.

Coast Guard crews covered a search area of over 20 square miles along with personnel from Lee County, Sanibel Police, Shore Patrol and Florida Fish and Wildlife.  

"We want to thank our local partners in searching for the missing man," said Capt. Matthew Thompson, commanding officer of Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg. "Our heartfelt sympathies are with the family of this man at this difficult time."
