SUBJ:  SOLICITATION FOR FY 2019 SAME AWARD NOMINATIONS

1. This ALCOAST solicits nominations for four awards sponsored by the Society of American
Military Engineers (SAME) as authorized and described by REF (A) and REF (B). These awards
are presented to deserving organizations and members of the Civil Engineering (CE) Program
in recognition of outstanding service and substantial accomplishments during the 2019 fiscal year.
    a. Cowart Plaque (Civil Engineering Organization): Awarded to a Civil Engineering Unit (CEU)
or Facility Design and Construction Center (FDCC) that has made the most outstanding contribution
to the Coast Guard (CG) CE Program.
    b. Cowart Plaque (Facilities Engineering Organization): Awarded to a CG Facilities Engineering
Organization that has made the most outstanding contribution to the CG CE Program.
    c. Oren Medal: Awarded to a regular or reserve (active, inactive, or retired) CG Officer or an
equivalent grade civilian employee in recognition of the most outstanding contribution of civil
engineering through achievement in design, construction, administration, research, or development.
    d. Sargent Medal: Awarded to an active duty Warrant Officer, Chief Petty Officer, Petty Officer,
or equivalent grade civilian employee in recognition of the most outstanding contribution to the CG
CE Program.
2. Nominations shall not exceed two letter-sized pages (single space, 12 pt. font) and must be
e-mailed NLT COB January 17, 2020 to: Aaron.D.DenDulk@uscg.mil. Write-ups should highlight results
that advanced the Civil Engineering Program or otherwise helped
modernize, sustain, repair, or improve processes for shore facilities. Complete eligibility and

3. Separate from the nominations above, each year, local SAME Posts present awards to individuals
and organizations from the uniformed services and the private sector in recognition of achievement
in support of the engineering profession, national security objectives and the SAME Strategic Plan.
Successful nominations are then forwarded to SAME HQ to compete for national awards. Additional
