Coast Guard assists 2 mariners near Galveston, Texas
HOUSTON — The Coast Guard assisted two mariners after their vessel ran aground on Mud Island near Galveston, Texas, Wednesday evening.
Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders were notified of a disabled barge with two mariners aboard requesting assistance due to exposure to inclement weather. Watchstanders issued a marine assistance request broadcast.
A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched to the scene. Once on scene, the aircrew hoisted the two mariners and transferred them to the Texas Gulf Coast Regional Airport in Houston. Both mariners did not request medical assistance.
Weather on scene was reported as 1-foot seas with 17 mph winds.
