Update: Coast Guard suspends search for a person in the water near Destin, Florida

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard suspended its search for a person in the water near Destin, Florida, Friday. 

Coast Guard air and boat crews spent over 130 hours onscene and searched more than 4,909 square-nautical miles over the course of four days but were unable to locate the airman. 

Involved in the search were:

  • Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter aircrew
  • Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew
  • Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew
  • Coast Guard Station Destin 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boat crews
  • Coast Guard Station Pensacola 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boat crew
  • Coast Guard Cutter Gannet crew
  • Coast Guard Cutter Benjamin Dailey crew
  • 24th Special Operations Wing, Hurlburt Field Air Force Base
  • 1st Special Operations Wing, Hurlburt Field Air Force Base
  • Special Tactics Squadron, Hurlburt Field Air Force Base
  • 96th Test Wing, Eglin Air Force Base
  • U.S. Army 7th Special Forces Group, Duke Field
  • Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office
  • Escambia County Sheriff's office
  • Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
