Coast Guard, partner agencies search for 74-year-old man near Big Pine Key

KEY WEST, Fla. — The Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and partner agencies are searching for John Gyurtsak, 74, from Big Pine Key after he was reported overdue, Tuesday.
Gyurtsak was last seen in his 34-foot pleasure craft, Thermocline, departing from Big Pine Key, Monday prior to 2 p.m.
Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders received a report from Gyurtsak's friend stating he's overdue after failing to meet him Tuesday at 9 a.m. A FWC marine unit located Gyurtsak's boat anchored with the engine running approximately 1 mile south of Big Pine Key.
Crews involved in the search include:
- Station Key West 33-foot Special Purpose Craft—Law Enforcement boatcrew
- Coast Guard Station Marathon 33-foot SPC—LE crew
- Coast Guard Cutter Raymond Evans (WPC-1110) crew
- Coast Guard Cutter Pelican (WPB-87327) crew
- Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and HC-130 Hercules airplane crews
- Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew
- U.S. Navy MH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter crew
- FWC marine and dive units
- Monroe County Sheriff's Office
