Safety Advisory - Revetment Operations MM 248.5-250 AHP LMR

A safety advisory has been issued due to Army Corps of Engineers revetment operations on the Right Descending Bank of the Lower Mississippi River, Mile Marker (MM) 249.3 Ahead of Passes (AHP) near Profit Island. The Captain of the Port of New Orleans has issued this safety advisory for vessels transiting the Lower Mississippi River from Mile Marker (MM) 248.5 AHP to MM 250 AHP. The revetment operations will take place daily from approximately 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM, Central Standard Time, starting on October 16, 2019 and ending on October 19, 2019. 

From 0700-1700, downbound vessels with tow sizes of 5 barges or more are advised not to transit between MM 250 and MM 248.5 until each day's completion of revetment operations. Downbound vessels shall check in with M/V ALBOB on channel 72 to enter the queue when they reach Port Hudson Light (MM 254.5). Upbound vessels shall check in with M/V ALBOB on channel 72 to make passing arrangements with the contract vessels when they reach Thomas Point (MM 240). Vessels shall not meet near the revetment operation. All vessels passing the revetment operation shall transit at slowest safe speed to minimize wake. 

Updates and/or changes to this Safety Advisory will be disseminated via VTS email distribution and/or via Safety Broadcast Notice to Mariners.
