SUBJ:  ADVANCE PREPARATIONS FOR UPCOMING LIMITED AVAILABILITY TO DIRECT ACCESS
1. This ALCOAST announces necessary preparations in advance of the scheduled period of
limited availability to Direct Access. The limited availability will be due to the
required validation of United States Coast Guard (USCG) Direct Access (DA) Contingency
and Disaster Recovery Plans (CP and DRP).
2. At 0600 EST, Friday, November 01, 2019, availability to Direct Access will be limited
to only those users who will be performing tasks associated with Disaster Recovery Planning.
Direct Access will be reactivated at 2359 EST, Friday, November 01, 2019. Testing exercises
will include a full application failure at the primary data center with a seamless transition
to the alternate data center. This will allow for testing of continuity of DA operations in
the event of a failure of the primary data center.
3. This limited availability to Direct Access potentially impacts all Active Duty, Reservists,
Retirees, Annuitants and civilian supervisors of military members. During this timeframe,
access to self-service in Direct Access for all users will be unavailable. This means no login
access, including no ability to submit absence requests, no processing of pay or separation
transactions and no processing of orders to include Reserve IDT, ADT, etc.
4. Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers-in-Charge and Command Senior Enlisted Leaders
should advise all members of the need to complete any required work prior to 0600 EST,
Friday, November 01, 2019.
