MIAMI —The Coast Guard and partner agencies are scheduled to hold a press briefing Thursday, to discuss boating safety and the enforcement of speed restrictions during the Columbus Day Weekend in Miami.

During the weekend, increased traffic on the water is expected. Coast Guard stations throughout South Florida, state and local law enforcement, and first responders will be on patrol to ensure safety and security on the water, but the Coast Guard reminds boaters that safety starts at the dock before you board your boat.

A 15-knot speed limit will be in effect from Turkey Point north to the Julia Tuttle Causeway and from Elliot Key west to the shoreline.  The speed restriction will be enforced from 12 p.m., Saturday, October 12 until 2 a.m., Monday, October 14.

The expanded regulated navigation area is necessary to protect the boating public during the holiday weekend when a significant concentration of vessels are expected to be on the Bay.
