MEDIA ADVISORY: Academy completes $3 million upgrade to high tech ship simulator facility

NEW LONDON, Conn., — The media is invited to tour the Academy’s new Ship Control and Navigation Training System in Yeaton Hall, Thursday and Friday.

The Academy recently completed a $3 million upgrade to its Ship Control and Navigation Training System (SCANTS), a ship simulator facility that includes two full-size ship's bridges and three smaller ones.  The simulators are so realistic that participants often sway with the simulated movement of the "ship".

SCANTS is be used to train cadets who upon graduation will be stationed across the country serving as deck watch officers responsible for the safe movement of their vessels.  The facility is also used to train all senior Coast Guard officers returning to sea service as part of the prospective Commanding Officer and Prospective Executive Officer Course.

For more information on the Coast Guard missions that SCANTS will prepare CG personnel to complete, go to https://www.work.uscg.mil/

Tours of the SCANTS facility are available Thursday and Friday from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Please RSVP to cga-public-affairs@uscga.edu by 4 p.m., Wednesday with the names of those attending.
