PHILADELPHIA – Media are invited to attend the awarding of 16 Air Medals and one Distinguished Flying Cross to members of Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City at 9 a.m., Wednesday.

The ceremony will be presided over by  Capt. Gregory Stump, 5th Coast Guard District chief of staff, and will recognize members of Air Station Atlantic City for their proficiency and expertise in 94 search and rescue cases, 66 lives saved and 84 lives assisted while flying in near-zero visibility and around numerous obstacles during hurricanes Florence and Harvey.

In addition, members will be recognized for their actions taken in four local search and rescue cases that took place between 2018 and 2019.

The Distinguished Flying Cross is awarded to any officer or enlisted member who distinguishes themselves in operations by heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight.

The Air Medal is awarded for single acts of heroism or meritorious achievement while participating in flight.

Attending media will be required to RSVP in advance so they may get security credentials at the FAA Tech Center security office at approximately 8:15 a.m. Media will be escorted to the Coast Guard Air Station and the ceremony will begin at approximately 9 a.m.
