(series)
1. Purpose. Internal Coast Guard research, in conjunction with the Women’s Retention Study and
Holistic Analysis (WRSHA), has revealed a significant data error rate in the Direct Access (DA)
body composition screening entries (weigh-ins). To effectively record, track, and evaluate the
effectiveness of this one-year Body Composition Pilot Program announced in REF (A), the
following data entry procedures will be in effect from 01 October 2019 to 30 September 2020.
This message will provide references and guidance for properly recording body composition
measurements in DA during the pilot program. Additional details are available in
Direct Access Procedure Guide for Member Weigh-In Data at
https://www.dcms.uscg.mil/Portals/10/CG-
1/PPC/GUIDES/GP/SelfService/Command/WeighInData.pdf.
2. General Overview: The remarks section of Member Weigh-In Data in DA will be used to
record the additional data requirements of the Pilot Program using a specified format explained
below. When performing any required body composition screening per REF (B) between 01 Oct
2019 and 30 Sep 2020, screeners will use the Record of Body Composition Screening found at
https://www.dcms.uscg.mil/military/Body-Composition-Program/.  All records shall be retained
for the duration of this pilot program pending future guidance.  DA entry will follow the
procedures in the Direct Access Procedure Guide to input Member Weigh-In Data.
3. The remarks section of Member Weigh-In Data will contain the following data, in order, with
each individual data element separated by a slash (/):  Reason for Screening/Compliance with
MAW/Compliance with Max Body Fat/AC measurement/Compliance with AC measurement/
Abeyance Status/Medically Cleared to PT/PT Results/Overall Compliance/Probation. Each data
element will be entered using specific alphanumeric codes as explained in the Direct Access
Procedure Guide.  Most likely screening scenarios and their data strings are contained in the
Direct Access Procedure Guide and in the Body Composition Screening desk guide.
4. Data accuracy and feedback. During the pilot period, Body Composition Screening data
entries will be checked for accuracy on a monthly basis.  The member who made the erroneous
entry along with their immediate supervisor will receive feedback from Yeoman Rating Force
Master Chief.
