Coast Guard suspends search for missing man in Fall River

BOSTON —The Coast Guard suspended its search Sunday at 6:30 p.m. for a missing man in Taunton River, Massachusetts pending new information.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southereastern New England command center received an initial report Saturday at approximately 5:30 p.m. from a Rhode Island 911 call of two men in their mid-thirties being ejected from their boat due to it hopping the wake of another boat and then capsizing. Both men were reportedly wearing inflatable life jackets.

One man was initially recovered by Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force and taken to the hospital for his injuries, cared for and later pronounced deceased.

Coast Guard Station Castle Hill and Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod utilized multiple assets and conducted search patterns spanning a total of 83 square miles.

Personnel and assets from 18 other government agencies and the Southeast Regional Dive Team assisted in the search.
