SUBJ:  2019 MINOR AND MAJOR CALIBER GUNNERY AWARD SOLICITATION
A. Recognitions Programs Manual, COMDTINST M1650.26 (series)
1. Nominations are being accepted for the 2019 Minor and Major Caliber Gunnery Awards.
This award was first presented to USCGC SNOHOMISH in 1927 and sought to promote ordnance readiness throughout the fleet. Today, this award is presented annually to recognize the cutters in the
fleet with superior minor and major caliber ordnance programs.
2. In accordance with REF (A), the Gunnery Award is presented each year to the cutters that best
exemplified the rich tradition of Coast Guard gunnery excellence. Cutters equipped with either an
MK75 or MK110 Gun Weapons System (GWS) are eligible to compete in the major caliber class award
category. Cutters with a MK38 GWS as the main battery are eligible to compete in the minor caliber
class award category.
3. Cutters that have completed Ordnance Technical Inspection (OTI), Ordnance Safety Inspection (OSI),
Command Assessment of Readiness and Training (CART) and Tailored Ship Training Availability (TSTA)
within 18 months of 30 September 2019 may submit their Gunnery Award packages via their Operational Commander to COMDT (CG-721). Operational Commanders may forward Gunnery Award packages to COMDT (CG-721) via email to: HQS-DG-LST-CG-7211@uscg.mil NLT 31 October 2019. Gunnery Award submission packages must include a one page memo summarizing the unit’s outstanding ordnance achievements:
    a. Unit's most recent Combat Systems Ship Qualification Trials, TSTA, and CART results
(as applicable).
    b. Unit's most recent OTI results.
    c. Unit's most recent OSI results.
    d. All Unit Ammunition Transaction Reports (ATR) for FY19. Units MUST have expended 80% of
their FY NTNO Non-Combat Expenditure Allocation (NCEA) to be eligible for consideration.
    e. Non-Combat Expenditure Allocation (NCEA) requests for FY19.
    f. All Unit Class A and B Ordnance Mishaps for FY19.
    g. All Unit Missing, Lost, Or Stolen (MLOS) ordnance reports for FY19.
    h. All Unit Navy Type Navy Owned (NTNO) Integrated Weapon System CASREPs for FY19.
4. The Gunnery Award review board will meet in early December 2019 to select award recipients.
5. Upon selection, COMDT (CG-721) will release an ALCOAST announcing the Minor and Major Caliber
Gunnery Award recipients.
6. Cutters receiving the Major and Minor Gunnery Awards will have their names engraved on a
plaque on the original trophy, a historic USCG heirloom that resides in the Weapons School at
USCG TRACEN Yorktown.
7. First time recipients will also be awarded a smaller, silver and bronze, rendition of the
TRACEN Yorktown Trophy, which shall be mounted appropriately aboard the cutter.
