Coast Guard concludes summer 2019 Lake of the Ozarks operations

ST. LOUIS – The Coast Guard, along with partner agencies, concluded its summer law enforcement effort on Lake of the Ozarks focused on deterring illegal charter operations and promoting safe recreational boating, this week.

From June through September, Coast Guard boat crews and investigators from Sector Upper Mississippi River conducted 340 hours of underway patrols, performed 280 vessel boardings and provided extensive dockside outreach to ensure safe boating practices.

"We came across significantly fewer illegal operators and issued fewer terminations this summer, despite having increased our operational tempo from last year," said Capt. Scott Stoermer, commanding officer of Sector Upper Mississippi River. "This higher rate of compliance is a direct result of outreach through our boat crews, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and our parter agencies."

The Coast Guard partnered with the following state and local agencies this summer in its operations:

  • Missouri State Highway Water Patrol
  • Missouri Department of Conservation
  • Osage Beach Fire Department
  • Sunrise Fire Department
