Coast Guard, partner agencies respond to beached panga carrying bales of marijuana in Malibu

 

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — Coast Guard and partner agencies responded to a report of a beached panga boat with bales of marijuana onboard in Malibu Saturday.

At approximately 6:20 a.m., Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach watchstanders received a report of an abandoned beached 35-foot panga vessel with 25 bales of marijuana onboard.

Watchstanders dispatched a Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco Forward Operating Base Mugu MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to conduct a search for possible people in the distress.

The Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment in Santa Barbara arrived on scene to assist with cleanup and removal of panga vessel from the beach.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Ventura County Fire Department, U.S. Border Patrol and California State Park Lifeguards responded to assist with the recovery and removal of the panga and contraband.
