Local, state, federal agencies to hold open house ahead of full-scale exercise on Eastern Shore
WHO: Local, state and federal agencies to include the Coast Guard, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, The Nature Conservancy,Virginia Institute of Marine Science, the Hampton Roads Incident Management Team among many others.
WHAT: An open house is being held ahead of local full-scale exercise to explain the processes and practices of a local, state and federal joint oil spill response.
WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: 29300 Lankford Hwy, Melfa, VA 23410
PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard is scheduled to hold an open house to kick off a full-scale exercise planned for later in the week.
The media and the public are invited to attend to learn more about the functions and processes of the Incident Command Structure in an oil spill response.
“This is a great opportunity for us to provide the public with an inside look at the great work our people do in a crisis,” said Lt. Cmdr. Renee McKinnon, planning officer for the full-scale exercise. “Our strength lies in our partnerships and here in Virginia, our partners are some of the most capable in the country.”
