SEATTLE -- The Coast Guard medevaced a 10-year-old boy with burns Friday night from Toleak Point.
A Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles MH-65 rescue helicopter crew airlifted the boy and his mother to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.
Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound watchstanders received a request for assistance from the National Parks Service at 10:50 p.m. Friday.
The boy reportedly had second degree burns on both feet and a portion of his left leg.
At 12:18 a.m., an Air Station Port Angeles MH-65 crew launched and arrived on scene at 12:50 a.m.
Due to the remote location, the boy and his mother were hoisted into the helicopter at 1 a.m. and transported for further medical assistance.
The Coast Guard encourages people exploring remote locations to use the buddy system and carry a cell phone or signaling device in case of an emergency.
