Media Advisory: U.S. Coast Guard to commission 2 national security cutters in Honolulu

HONOLULU — The media are invited to the dual commissioning ceremony for the USCGC Kimball (WMSL 756) and USGCG Midgett (WMSL 757) at U.S. Coast Guard Base Honolulu, Saturday.

The commissioning will commence at 10 a.m. with a ceremony followed by a reception. Interviews with the commanding officers, Capt. Holly Harrison of Kimball and Capt. Alan McCabe of Midgett will be available immediately following the ceremony. 

Midgett arrived in Honolulu from Pascagoula, Mississippi, Friday. The Kimball arrived Dec. 22, 2018. 

The Legend-class national security cutters are some of the Coast Guard's newest additions to the fleet and are a capable platform for a wide range of missions including homeland security and defense. 

Who: USCGC Kimball (WMSL 756) and USGCG Midgett (WMSL 757)
What: Dual commissioning of these vessels. 

When: Saturday, Aug. 24. Please be in place by 9:45 a.m.

Limited on-base parking is available by request, first come first serve to accommodate large camera equipment. As we are expecting a large number of guests, off-site parking will also be marked and available at the lot across from the port entrance and Matson on Sand Island Access Road. Mini-buses will run continuously from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. and following the ceremony until 3 p.m.
