HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – The Coast Guard terminated the voyage of a 23-foot pleasure craft
Sunday operating under hazardous conditions 17 miles east of Hollywood.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Yered (WPC-1104) conducted a boarding on the
vessel with six passengers aboard and discovered an insufficient number of life jackets.

“Failure to wear a personal flotation device is the main reason people lose their lives in
recreation accidents within the maritime domain,” said Lt. Joshua Tucker, cutter Robert Yered
commanding officer. “Free vessel safety checks are available in the Miami area by contacting
local Coast Guard Auxiliary members. A dockside safety check doesn’t exempt mariners from
at-sea boardings, but it can speed the process along and help to ensure any discrepancies have
been addressed before getting underway.”

After completing the boarding the cutter’s crew located a total of 12 lobster tails aboard the
pleasure craft.

The cutter Robert Yered crew escorted the vessel to Port Everglades, where Florida Fish and
Wildlife Conservation Commission agents were waiting to conduct further investigations.
