ALAMEDA, Calif. — The Coast Guard rescued 25 crewmembers from the 160-foot Ecuadorian fishing vessel Marujita Wednesday in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and transferred all crewmembers to an Ecuadorian vessel Sunday.
The crew of the Marujita and 12 Coast Guardsmen who were conducting a routine boarding of the fishing boat were forced to abandon ship when the vessel listed and capsized approximately 335 miles southeast of Clipperton Island.
Twenty-five Marujita crewmembers and 12 Coast Guardsmen were rescued by the crew of a Coast Guard cutter.
The Marujita later sank.
The Coast Guard coordinated with Ecuadorian officials to transfer the Marujita crew from the cutter to an Ecuadorian vessel.
