Coast Guard medevacs mariner 34 miles offshore Freeport, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced a 37-year-old man approximately 34 miles offshore of Freeport, Texas, Friday afternoon.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a request from a charter fishing vessel stating that a passenger was experiencing symptoms of a heart attack and was in need of medical assistance. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

An Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched to the scene, where the helicopter crew hoisted and transferred the mariner to Brazosport Medical Center in Freeport.

Weather on-scene was reported as 3-foot seas and 13 mph winds.
