SUBJ: SOLICITATION FOR THE 2020 BLACK ENGINEER OF THE YEAR AWARDS SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY,
ENGINEERING, AND MATH (STEM) CONFERENCE AWARDS NOMINATIONS
1. Career Communications Group. Inc., is the host for the Black Engineer of the Year
(BEYA) STEM Conference and is accepting nominations for awards to be presented at the
2020 conference scheduled for 13-15 February 2020 in Washington, DC. These awards recognize
outstanding individuals from all backgrounds for their contribution to the STEM fields and
provide excellent opportunities to showcase the superior achievements of the US Coast Guard’s
highest performing military and civilian members to an African American majority STEM audience.
2. The BEYA STEM Professional categories are awards granted to individuals in the workforce.
The nomination applications are reviewed and recommended for an award by a panel of leaders
from industry, government and academia. Those categories are:
     A. Peer Review - Professional Award 
     B. Community Service
     C. Affirmative Action
     D. Education Leadership
     E. Entrepreneur Leadership
     F. Most Promising Engineer
     G. Most Promising Scientist
     H. Outstanding Technical Contribution
     I. Research Leadership
     J. Senior Investigator
     K. Senior Technology Fellow
     L. Technical Sales and Marketing
3. The BEYA STEM Academia categories are awards granted to individuals in the academic
community. The nomination applications are reviewed and recommended for an award by a panel of
leaders from industry, government, and academia. Those categories are:
     A. Educational Leadership
     B. K-12 Promotion of Education
     C. GEM Outstanding Young Alumnus/GEM Student Leadership
     C. Student Leadership
4. The BEYA STEM Outstanding Achievement Awards are granted to individuals in the workforce
and are recommended for these awards by their employers; the categories are:
     A. BEYA STEM Outstanding Achievement Award 
     B. Modern-Day Technology Leader
     C. Science Spectrum Trailblazer
5. The BEYA Stars & Stripes Awards are granted to individuals in the military community. The
nomination applications are reviewed and recommended for an award by a panel of leaders from
current and retired military members.
The categories are:
     A. Service Military Award
     B. Senior Executive Service Award
     C. Senior Enlisted Award
6. You may obtain additional information on the 2020 BEYA STEM Conference and the BEYA Awards at

or submitted online to Career Communications Group per the guidance and criteria on their website
https://intouch.ccgmag.com/mpage/beya_about_the_award. In addition to this process, nominators will
notify COMDT (CG-127) of all nominees for tracking purposes. Nomination packages for all awards
are due NLT 31 August 2019. Commands are encouraged to contact COMDT (CG-127) point of contact,

concerns. COMDT (CG-127) will seek authorization from COMDT (CG-8) for CFO approval. All award
winner travel and registration will be sponsored by their nominating command/unit.
