Coast Guard Station, Aids-to-Navigation Team Burlington receives new response boat

BOSTON — Coast Guard Station and Aids-to-Navigation Team Burlington received its new 45-foot Response Boat-Medium Thursday, adding another search and rescue resource to Lake Champlain.

The RB-M is used in Coast Guard coastal operations. The response boat can operate in 10-foot seas, 30-knot winds, and has an approximate range of 250-nautical miles. 

"We're very excited for the opportunity to bring this new asset to Lake Champlain," said Senior Chief Rob Northcott, officer-in-charge of STANT Burlington. "The RB-M is the largest, most technologically advanced search and rescue boat the Coast Guard has ever had on the lake, and we can better serve mariners across Lake Champlain."

STANT Burlington performs Coast Guard missions including search and rescue, homeland security, maritime law enforcement, marine environmental protection, and aids-to-navigation across the 490-square miles area of Lake Champlain spanning Vermont, New York, and the U.S.-Canada border. 

Coast Guard has 174 Response Boat-Mediums in use today, and they were produced to replace the 41-foot utility boat, which was retired in 2014.
