JUNEAU, Alaska — A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a 55-year-old woman after she reportedly fractured her leg while hiking North Sister Mountain on Kodiak Island, Thursday.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air station Kodiak hoisted the hiker from near the mountain peak and transferred her to emergency medical personnel waiting at Kodiak Municipal Airport.
Coast Guard Sector Anchorage watchstanders received a request around 7 p.m. from City of Kodiak Fire Department personnel for assistance as the hiker was reportedly unable to traverse the steep terrain back down the mountain. An on-scene fire department emergency medical technician put her leg in a splint, as well as helped her with pain management.
The Jayhawk aircrew was airborne on a trainer flight and diverted to respond.
