Coast Guard searching for person in the water near Hackberry, LA
LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana —The Coast Guard is searching for a person in the Calcasieu River near Hackberry, La., Wednesday.
At approximately 4 a.m., Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received notification that a man was ejected from his skiff after striking an underwater dredge pipe. There were two people onboard the vessel at the time of the incident.
The missing person is described as a Caucasian male in his early 30's.
Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast. A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a Station Lake Charles 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew were launched to the scene.
The Coast Guard has closed the Calcasieu River Ship Channel from two miles south of light 78 to two miles north of light 80 due to search and rescue operations.
