Coast Guard rescues 2 people after canoes capsize in Sarasota Bay

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Coast Guard rescued two people Tuesday after their canoes capsized in Sarasota Bay. 

At 2:04 a.m. Coast Guard Station Cortez received a call from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office stating two canoes had overturned and three people were in the water. 

A Station Cortez 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew was launched and recovered two people in the water without life jackets. The third person swam ashore. The two rescued were transported to 10th Street Boat Ramp where Emergency Medical Services were awaiting. 

No injuries were reported.

Sarasota Police Department also responded.
