HOUSTON —Coast Guard Air Station Houston held a change-of-command ceremony in Houston, Texas, Friday.
Rear Adm. Paul Thomas, Eighth Coast Guard District commander, presided over the ceremony as Cmdr. Marcus Canady relieved Capt. James Spitler as commanding officer of Air Station Houston.
Cmdr. Canady’s previous assignment was as the air operations officer at Air Station Corpus Christi. Capt. Spitler’s next assignment is at the Naval Warfare College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he will study National Security and Strategic Studies.
The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition and deeply rooted in Coast Guard and Naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command.
