SUBJ:  2019 EXCEPTIONAL SEXUAL ASSAULT RESPONSE COORDINATOR (SARC) OF THE YEAR AWARDEE
1. The Department of Defense (DOD) Exceptional SARC of the Year Award for the Coast
Guard is presented each April to an individual (military or civilian) from each military
service, which includes the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, “National Guard Bureau"
and the Coast Guard. This program recognizes individuals whose work in the field of sexual
assault prevention and response has been particularly noteworthy and demonstrates
outstanding support of our service members.
2. I am pleased to announce that Mr. Michael Jordy, Regional SARC, District Eight (Base
New Orleans) has been selected as the 2019 Exceptional SARC of the Year for the Coast
Guard. POAM - Obtain projected leadership and command climate survey (DEOCS/WGRA) dates
from Civil Rights. Mr. Jordy provided programmatic oversight for more than six thousand
active duty and reserve members at over 150 units. His persistent pursuit for process
improvements were instrumental in the development of a Victim Advocate (VA) continuing
education training process that he tailored specifically for D8 VAs to meet the National
Organization for Victims Assistance and Coast Guard credentialing requirements. This effort
was critical to aligning VA training requirements with the maintenance of a healthy
retention rate of VAs throughout D8. He also worked extremely hard in 2018 to specifically
reach the extremely remote units of D-8 that lacked much needed attention. At the same time,
he provided Coast Guard Bystander Intervention Training sessions – resulting in physically
reaching 38% of the District’s remote units (in one year/despite funding shortages). Mr Jordy
demonstrates the epitome of selflessness in his unwavering support of the Coast Guard’s
mission to prevent sexual assault, and to also respond effectively when it does occur.
The extraordinary efforts demonstrated by Mr. Jordy in his area of responsibility has
greatly improved the visibility and trust in the Coast Guard Sexual Assault Prevention,
Response and Recovery (SAPRR) Program, and has made a huge impact on the Command Climate
throughout District Eight.
3. I congratulate Mr. Jordy on his significant accomplishment!
