Coast Guard, state, local agencies searching for 2 after helicopter crash near Kent Island, Md.

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard, along with state and local partners, is searching for two men near the site of a helicopter crash near Maryland’s Eastern Bay, Saturday afternoon.

Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region watchstanders received a report at about 12:30 p.m. that a two-seat light helicopter with two men aboard crashed about 1 mile south of Kent Island.

A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Coast Guard Station Annapolis and a boat crew with Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 25-1 launched to search for the two men.

Personnel with the following agencies are also responding:

  • National Transportation Safety Board
  • Federal Aviation Administration
  • Maryland National Resources Police
  • Queen Anne’s County Fire Department
  • Talbot County Fire Department
  • Anne Arundel County Fire Department Dive Team

The on-scene weather was reported as 5 to 10 knot winds, 1 foot seas and a water temperature of 62 degrees.

The cause of the helicopter crash is unknown. 

If anyone sees anything in the vicinity south of Kent Island, it is requested that they contact the Sector Maryland-National Capital Region on VHF-FM channel 16 or at 410-576-2525.
