ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from the cruise ship MSC Divina approximately 100 miles southeast of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Tuesday.
Early Tuesday morning, watchstanders at the Coast Guard Fifth District command center were notified that the 52-year-old man was found unconscious on the ship's pool deck.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City and an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina launched to assist.
Once on scene, the helicopter crew safely hoisted the man up and transported him to Atlantic City Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City Campus.
"We would like to commend the crew of the ship for their quick communication," said Lt. James Fennessey, helicopter pilot during the case. "Notifying us as soon as possible gave us the time needed to plan and execute accordingly, which ultimately got this man the level of care he needed."
