Coast Guard suspends search for owner of unmanned, adrift vessel near Brownsville, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard has suspended the search for the owner of an unmanned, adrift 25-foot recreational vessel found in the surf approximately one mile north of the mouth of the Rio Grande near Brownsville, Texas, Tuesday.

The search began Tuesday morning when Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received notification from a Customs and Border Patrol agent of an unmanned and adrift red, center console vessel with one outboard motor and fishing gear onboard.

A Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew and a Coast Guard Station South Padre Island 33-foot Special Purpose Craft–Law Enforcement boat crew were launched to search the area.

Involved in the search were:

• Coast Guard Station South Padre Island 33-foot Special Purpose Craft–Law Enforcement boat crew
• Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew
• The Secretaría de Marina (SEMAR)

The Coast Guard’s search will remain suspended pending the development of new information.
