PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The Coast Guard and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources combined efforts to board commercial fishing vessels along the coast of South Carolina Tuesday.

The Coast Guard and SCDNR joint boarding team inspected fishing vessels harvesting snapper, grouper and bluefin tuna to ensure compliance with safety and fishing regulations.

“Working with our state partners is a great opportunity to combine our knowledge and resources,” said Lt. Bryan Kilcoin, commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Nathan Bruckenthal. “Together we ensure fishermen are safe on the water, and protect the longevity of the fisheries that are so important to the local economy.”
