Coast Guard, Port of Virginia to conduct flare training in Hampton, VA
PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads and the Port of Virginia Maritime Incident Response Team are scheduled to conduct flare training Wednesday evening in Hampton, Virginia.
Media members are invited to attend the flare training on Wednesday at the Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina in Hampton from 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
WHO: Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads, Port of Virginia Maritime Incident Response Team, other agencies
WHAT: Nighttime flare training
WHERE: In the vicinity of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel
WHY: To strengthen interagency partnerships and communication, and to improve the life-saving processes and skills required of SAR agencies
WHEN: Wednesday, February 27, 2019, from 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Coast Guard Capt. Kevin Carroll, commander of Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads, will be available for interviews, along with Bill Burket, director of Virginia Port Authority Maritime Incident Response Team.
This training is provided to more than 35 law enforcement and fire departments from across the Commonwealth of Virginia that are involved in search and rescue missions.
