MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. — The Coast Guard is scheduled to re-designate Eureka as an official Coast Guard City Friday during a ceremony at the City of Eureka Council Chambers.
Capt. James Pruett, the Coast Guard 11th District chief of staff and Capt. Greg Fuller, Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay commander, are scheduled to bestow this honor to Eureka with approval from Congress.
Eureka is the second U.S. city to be designated as a Coast Guard City, first achieving the honor in June of 2000. The Coast Guard City program was established by Congress in 1998 to recognize the support local governments and communities provide to Coast Guard members and their families. There are currently 25 Coast Guard Cities nationwide.
Coast Guard representatives will be available immediately following the ceremony for interviews. Interviews with Rep. Huffman and/or Mayor Seaman must be coordinated through their respective offices.
